FOWINDs PARTICIPATION IN EWEA OFFSHORE - THE WORLDS LARGEST OFFSHORE WIND ENERGY CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION

10-03-15

This year in March 2015 at the European Wind Energy Association's Offshore Wind Conference and Exhibition at Bella Centre in Copenhagen (Denmark), FOWIND partner the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) as part of it's ongoing outreach activities for the project at international forums organised a side event titled "Growing Your Offshore Wind Business in Asia and North America".

GWEC's side-event featured Shruti Shukla (Sr. Policy Advisor, GWEC) talking about the FOWIND project. Her talk and presentation showcased the work being done under FOWIND towards developing a roadmap for an offshore wind sector in India. She discussed the preliminary findings from the project pre-feasibility assessments for the States of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.

Other speakers on the panel included China Wind Energy Association's Secretary General Qin Haiyen talking about the offshore experience in China, a story similar in many ways to that in Europe, i.e. one of early enthusiasm, ambitious targets, followed by unforeseen problems and setbacks, and then a more realistic appraisal and starting again: albeit in a much compressed time frame compared with that in Europe. Bruce Hamilton, Director, Navigant Consulting talked about the situation in the nascent US offshore market and the opportunities and challenges faced by offshore wind project developers there. Alexis Crama, Vice President, LM Wind Power discussed Challenges and opportunities of bringing down cost of energy in non-European offshore markets.

At EWEA Offshore 2015, side-event over a 100 attendees from the business and wind industry; and also academicians working on R&D aspects of offshore wind participated enthusiastically.
